What is the day/night split?

Coen, the protagonist of The Blood of Dawnwalker, is a Dawnwalker: human by day, vampire by night. This is the game’s defining mechanic, confirmed across official materials including the official site and the gameplay reveal.

What is confirmed about each side?

  • By day — Coen fights and travels as a human, using human abilities. See Human Skills.
  • By night — Coen fights as a vampire, with vampiric powers folded into the directional combat system. See Vampire Powers.
  • Combat — the official gameplay reveal shows directional combat blending swordfighting, spells, and vampiric powers.

How does the split affect quests and routes?

Each day and each night has 8 time units (per Xbox hands-on coverage), and quest actions spend them. Because your abilities differ by time of day, routes through Vale Sangora differ too — some objectives will favor or require a specific half of the clock.

Pre-release information — awaiting verification: no official per-quest day/night availability list exists yet. Starting September 3, 2026, the Quest Time Costs database will mark every quest as day-only, night-only, or both, verified from the release build.

How should you plan around it?

  1. Learn the clock on How Time Works.
  2. Treat day units and night units as two separate budgets in the 30-Day Planner.
  3. Check Choices & Consequences before committing to branches that may play out differently by day or night.
