How Time Works in The Blood of Dawnwalker: 30 Days, 8+8 Units
The Blood of Dawnwalker gives you 30 days and 30 nights. Learn how the 8+8 time-unit system works, what spends units, and what is free.
How does the clock work?
The Blood of Dawnwalker structures its story around a hard limit: 30 days and 30 nights in Vale Sangora. There is no traditional main/side quest split — every quest action you take advances the clock toward the end of that window.
Official hands-on coverage (Xbox) reports the exact granularity: each day has 8 time units and each night has 8 time units, for 480 units across a full playthrough. Pre-release information — awaiting verification in the release build on September 3, 2026.
What spends time units?
Quest actions spend time units. Exact per-action costs are not yet public; the Quest Time Costs database will list the verified cost of every quest action starting from the release build.
What does not spend time units?
Free exploration does not consume time units, per the same Xbox hands-on report. You can roam Vale Sangora, learn its routes, and prepare without burning your budget. See Does Exploration Use Time? for the short answer and its source.
Why does this matter for planning?
Because quest actions are the only thing that spends your 480 units, a playthrough is a budgeting problem:
- Read The 30-Day Limit for why you cannot do everything.
- Use the 30-Day Planner method to shortlist and budget before spending.
- Check Day vs Night to understand which units — day or night — a quest may require.
